I highly recommend Mad Rabbit aftercare products!

For the proceeding 48-72 hours, your tattoo is an open wound and should be treated as such. Do not allow any contaminated objects to come into contact with your tattoo.

If you have Second Skin (Saniderm, Recovery Derm or a similar bandage)

  • Leave the second skin bandage on for 3-4 days, unless it starts leaking or peeling, exposing the fresh tattoo.

  • Some fluid buildup under the bandage is normal; however if its excessive, or if there are sweat bubbles, remove it sooner.

Removing the Second Skin

  • Wash your hands thoroughly, with unscented antibacterial soap before touching the tattoo.

  • Slowly peel off the bandage under running warm water to help loosen the adhesive.

  • DO NOT rip it off dry like a regular bandage, as this can damage the tattoo.

Cleaning and moisturizing

  • Wash the tattoo gently with lukewarm water and unscented antibacterial soap (avoid harsh scrubbing).

  • Pat dry with a clean paper towel- do not rub or use a towel.

  • Apply a thin layer of fragrance- free tattoo ointment or lotion (such as Mad Rabbit, Aquaphor, etc.)

  • While the tattoo is healing, you should always wash your hands prior to moisturizing it.

Long term care (after removing second skin)

  • Keep your tattoo clean and moisturized for at least 2 weeks.

  • Avoid direct sunlight, swimming, soaking in water, excessive sweating, saunas, steam rooms etc. for 2-3 weeks.

  • Wear loose, breathable clothing to avoid irritation.

  • Do not pick, scratch or peel the tattoo- let it heal naturally.

  • Depending on size, style and location of the tattoo, healing usually takes between 10-14 days.

Signs of infection (seek medical attention if you experience)

  • Excessive redness, swelling or pain after the first few days.

  • Yellow or green pus, foul odor, or extreme warmth around the tattoo.

  • Fever or chills

Your tattoo is a lifelong investment- take care of it!
